An inverter is a modern electronic device that is used to regulate the speed of electric motors. Its task is to convert direct current (DC) into alternating current (AC) with adjustable frequency and voltage. Thanks to this, the inverter allows smooth control of the operation of electric drives, which translates into energy savings, longer machine life and precise control of industrial processes.

How does an inverter work?

The principle of an inverter is that the device first rectifies the input voltage, and then produces an AC signal at the output with the desired frequency. In practice, this means that the speed of the motor can be flexibly adjusted to the current needs of the production process. Cabinet inverters and decentralized inverters - what's the difference?

They are available as single-axis application inverters with power ratings up to 315 kW and as modular multi-axis systems with single- and dual-axis modules with current ratings up to 180 A. They offer up to 250% overload capacity for dynamic movements. Whether as a single-axis application inverter or in a modular version, SEW-EURODRIVE's inverter technology controls and monitors all types of motors - synchronous and asynchronous three-phase motors with or without encoder, as well as asynchronous motors with LSPM technology or synchronous and asynchronous linear motors. Functional safety is included, of course, and the STO safety function in the PL e is already integrated into the basic unit. With optional safety cards, more than 15 additional safety functions are available.
